Asian American and Pacific Islander Cultural Expo hosted at the Heritage Center

BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) – The North Dakota Asian-American Arts and Cultural Initiative hosted its Third Annual Cultural Expo Saturday at the Heritage Center.

In honor of May being Asian-American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, different exhibits were set up to show off a variety of cultures. The event featured cultural food from Blacksun Grill and India Clay Oven. There was also an art exhibit featuring the works of Asian American artists. Filipino-born Joan Klein, co-founder of the nonprofit organization, had some of her own artworks displayed.

“I love nature, so I paint nature, photograph nature, people, anything that inspires me, and a lot of my influence for me is my culture, my Filipino culture,” said Klein.

Three Asian-American artists from Chicago were also invited to talk on a panel.
