My Life in Culture: Wizard of Oz star Aviva Tulley

The last thing I saw and loved was… MJ The Musical. I loved it because I am a fan of his work and talent.

I find inspiration in… my friends and family.

My favourite film is… The Shawshank Redemption.

My career highlight is… singing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” on TV for The Big Night of Musicals.

The song I listen to to get in the zone is… “One Step At A Time” by Jordin Sparks.

The last series I recommended is… Normal People.

I never leave the house without… an umbrella – especially in the UK or Ireland!

The film I still think about is… Everything Everywhere All At Once. The most unusual, funny, emotional movie I have ever watched.

My dream role would be… Eliza in Hamilton.

The best advice I’ve ever gotten is… that comparison is the thief of joy.

The film that means the most to me is… Mulan. I remember watching that film as a kid and really falling in love with the character Mulan and being amazed about this strong powerful woman who saves China.

My favourite moment in this show is… when Dorothy realises she is stuck in Kansas. I think that’s a really emotional part of the show and it’s really fun to play with.

The most challenging thing about being on stage is… maintaining connection. In live theatre, anything can happen so sometimes distractions can make you come out of character.

After a show, I… go home and wind down, watch some TV and go to bed.

If I wasn’t an actor, I would be… an interior designer.

The magic of theatre to me is… immersing myself in a different reality and bringing the audience along with me.

The Wizard of Oz plays at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre until June 8, tickets here.
